A Very Special Event :)
We started the week sitting waiting for the ferry at Cleveland. Here; we met Will. Will was a Straddie local, with whom Laura’s mum made friends with. The ferry ride there was awkward once we’d been introduced to Will. However we soon arrived, where we made our way excitedly to the one bus that runs on the island; with the same driver we remembered from last time…the weird old guy with the white hair.
From there, we made our way Cylinder Beach where camp was thankfully already set up for us by Ellen’s awesome parents J. We checked out the area and remembered back to the other times we’d camped here the holidays before. It was great to be back.
That night, we realised that the tent (belonging to Fung) was not as big as any of us (including Fung) imagined…it was a two man tent for four of us. Here started the late nights filled with UNO, red liquorice + other lollies, A.O. bars and Magazine reading.
The first night however (although squished) was quite comfortable…comparing to the nights that followed anyway. After the first day, it started to get rainy. This wasn’t really a problem until we found ourselves sleeping in a flooded tent for the rest of the week. The rain leaked through (the obviously UN-weatherproof tent) and wet our mattresses, our magazines, our pillows and practically everything around the sides. There was literally no dry space. Nevertheless, we survived this and fought for the most comfortable place in the tent each night.
We occupied ourselves everyday through many, many unforgettable ways. Watching the surfers, befriending the seedy lifesaver, nick-naming all the different people around us, phone charging on the few extremely slow power plugs, eating Cheerios, drying our tent contents, swimming, drawing in the sand, climbing and sitting on the rocky cliffs, walking to the shop, op-shopping, UNO and heaps of other stuff.
Overall this Straddie trip was one of the best we’ve had and another trip has already been planned.
